Tab Mix Plus for Firefox 3 July 17, 2008

I’ve been seriously mourning the loss of Tab Mix Plus for FF3.

Having to right click, open in new tab to get a link or bookmark to open in a new tab was driving me crazy.

Every time FF3 told me it had found an update for one of my add-ons, I could hardly bear the excitement, thinking could it be, just maybe, Tab Mix Plus?….but disappointment abounded.

But, no more!

I did a manual check today, just out of curiosity and lo and behold, there’s a development build of the add-on on the Tab Mix Plus website. O glory be!

Evernote out of private beta (and working for Firefox 3) June 24, 2008

Evernote, the desktop & web-based note taking software, is out of beta today (and finally working on Firefox 3!)

I’d previously used OneNote 2007 (which comes with MS Office) but I’m liking Evernote a little more.

Although I prefer the ‘notebook’ look and feel to OneNote, I love the ’synchronise’ feature of Evernote – basically whatever I save to my desktop version appears in my web version and vice versa.

Sending/ saving to Evernote is effortless. There’s a web clipper for the web and desktop versions that you can pick up from the website. You can also email stuff direct and even save photos to Evernote. The example they give is taking a phone picture shot of a business card, sending it to Evernote, and it becomes searchable – even any handwriting (whether this works is pretty hit or miss, I find, depending on the clarity of the photo). Overall, it’s too handy not to change over.

And of course you can tag your notes.

I prefer the look of the web version which gives you thumbnails rather than lines of text to look at, but I’m getting used to it. And for free, who wouldn’t?

HTML signatures for Gmail June 23, 2008

BlankCanvas have a new release of their Gmail add-on: Gmail signatures.

I know Better Gmail 2 has an HTML signature option but I find it can be a bit ‘cranky’ – works some times, not others.

The BlankCanvas add-on works a treat (unless you’re using the Gmail Redesigned skin, in which case, again with the crankiness).

But if that doesn’t bother you, you can check it out here.

Want a really easy drag and drop room planner?

Got one for you. I found this one on La Difference’s website and it’s created by icovia.com (but icovia provide these planners for a number of clients so you may have come across it elsewhere).

Very easy to navigate, with a number of pre-built plans to pick from. You can also choose a blank plan and specify your own dimensions. Once you’ve chosen the room you want to remodel, simply drag and drop the relevant items from the left side panel, then resize, zoom and measure away… hours of fun.

Twitkit for Twitter in your Firefox browser June 17, 2008

Yet another Twitter app.

Twitkit is in beta right now but it’s working pretty well.

I like the keyboard shortcut to get it to open and the fact that it’s not open all the time (a la Digsby et al).

When Twitter works of course ;)

Download it here

Now all they need to do is make it work for Firefox 3…Experimental only (so you’ll need to log in) for Firefox 3 right now

Wow, there’s some real bitchin’ going down over all over the internet, all those poor Brits, Ozzies, etc… still not able to get their mitts on Firefox 3.

Well, according to the Dallas Morning Post it’s going to be available from 12pm Central time (10am PST, 6pm in the UK)

Can’t believe you’re getting so narky about something someone’s giving you for free, people!

FireNES lets you play Nintendo games for free in Firefox June 16, 2008

This is super cool.

Play any one of 2,500 (that’s right, 2,500) Nintendo games in Firefox (even Firefox 3) for FREE with this add on.

I couldn’t seem to get the Firefox extension from the add-ons tool, instead I went to Softronic to get it.

Some of the games don’t seem to load – like Tetris, or Pacman :( -, the graphics are really basic and the music is super annoying, but you can turn it off in options. Still, for a freebie that doesn’t require you to do much more than add a browser extension, I’ll take it.

Here’s to a productive afternoon…

I love free stuff. I particularly like free geeky stuff. That’s why I love giveawayoftheday.com.

They get you free stuff EVERY day if you want it. And it’s not just junk.

Like today, for example, I got Macrium Reflect for free, which not only backs up your stuff but can also create an image of your hard drive for those disk failure moments, or impulsive/ mistaken file deletions.

And boy do I need it.

How delicious

This morning I was able to ‘update’ my delicious buttons and toolbar in Firefox 3. And it’s even better than before.

There’s now a ‘bookmarks’ button that loads your delicious bookmarks in a sidebar. You can still ‘tag’ and go to the delicious website. I’m a big fan of screen real estate so I’m not using the toolbar.

Oh, and the buttons look prettier too. Very important.
